PORT PERRY, ONTARIO – Thanks to funding through the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program, a new learning and leadership initiative for artists aged 55+ is launching this fall in Port Perry. The Artists Learning Community will begin on September 10, 2026, at New Song Church, creating free opportunities for artists to gather, learn, collaborate, and contribute to the flourishing of their communities.

Running from September 10 through December 3, 2026, and continuing on January 14 and January 28, 2027, the Artists Learning Community is designed to bring together artists, makers, musicians, writers, performers, and other creative practitioners committed to lifelong learning, artistic development, mentorship, wellbeing, and community engagement.

The initiative is guided by a simple but powerful vision:

Learning Leaders Creating Together

Participants will engage in creative conversations, peer learning, mentorship, and reflective practices designed to strengthen their artistic practice and their contribution to community life.

"The Artists Learning Community welcomes artists of all backgrounds and beliefs. Through free studio space and collaboration with fellow artist leaders, participants will explore creativity, wellbeing, and spiritual care that help artists and communities flourish through skill development, wellbeing, and spiritual care”
